Video: K1 Problems? I solved mine, Here is how I did it!

Hey Lenovo What Gives?

Well first let me say from my review and un-boxing you can find here and here respectively you know i’m a fan. Lenovo has tried to do some pretty inventive things with the tablets launcher. A couple are they added a task killer and a quick launcher accessible from the home screen. For this reason it’s got some cool perks that other tabs just don’t have or at least did not when it launched (netflix). Anyhow the ambitious launcher and software packed in with the tab have caused big problems. Sluggish responsiveness, launcher crashes, random reboots, wake lock issues and etc. Well an update managed to repair some of these issues and it’s sad Lenovo has not done more to help the folks who purchased it including helping us with root access which would automatically fix like 90 percent of the issues. They should give this tablet to the development community. Anyway that’s my rant know let’s get down to business. I fixed almost all of these issues and here’s how.

The Most Comprehensive Directions Ever…. lol

Luckily there are some test OTA’s that can be found and flashed on Levnovo’s Ideasystem Forum  (not Android 3.2 Lenovo removed the 3.2 test ROMS another way to fail ideapad owners miserably) I myself used this one found here you also will need the xml script which you should download as a text document from HERE. (Lenovo has pulled the zips i linked to here i will upload them because they are a stable build and the links will be working soon) Ok so got your two files.
Change the name of the zip to update.zip the xml should also be named update. Ok so I got two files one a zip and one an xml file and both are named update right? Place these in the “Download” folder. (that’s update.zip and update.xml careful with the xml dont accidentally name it update.xml.xml) The Download folder not downloads guys they need to be in the Download folder. Now power off your tablet and hold the + volume key and the power button simultaneously. (you may need to try this several times to get it to work.) your tablet should then boot into update mode and your done. It will take awhile and you will have a veritable heart attack thinking the tab is bricked but it will boot. Now you will have to play detective. When the tablet reboots you will get a dozen or so fc’s. These apps will have to be removed and re installed so you will have to track these down and re install them. Let the tablet do it’s thing after you get the apps all removed (most of them horrible bloat anyway) your tablet will run like new. I now have a flawless ideapad and it’s running like a dream.

Now to the folks at Lenovo. Give us an 3.2 OTA or give the folks who’s tabs are not functioning properly there money back. I for one love my ideapad and will keep it but for the folks who don’t have the technical know how you should really take care of them its the right thing to do. Also you should give a few of these away. I have developers in the after market community who will hook these bad boys right up. You got one of the best tablets available here. Give us Root. Let US fix it.

CAUTION: If you brick your tablet don’t blame me blame President Obama like everyone else does.
