Do You Have A Nexus S 4G? Android 4.0 ICS ROM Is Ready For You!!
The Nexus S 4G has been a very big seller for Sprint. The phone was Google’s Nexus release this past year and features a 4″ Super AMOLED display, 1GHz Hummingbird processor, and an NFC chip to name a few features. With the announcement of ICS last week, the Android world has been abuzz with questions of which devices will receive the update to Android 4.o and when. If you have a rooted Nexus S 4G and don’t mind flashing a ROM your wait is over!!
This ROM is based on the Android 4.0 SDK released last week by Google. What does this mean for you? The SDK (software development kit) is released by Google after an OS upgrade is announced. It is used by developers to write apps and compile custom ROMs. Unlike CM7 which is built off the actual source code a ROM built off the SDK has to be compiled by the devs. It looks like in a few short days the wizards over at XDA have compiled one of the first ICS ROMs out there! Below is a list of what works and what doesn’t and I have thrown on a video for you to see the ROM in action yourself. So if you do not mind the calling issues or having a non-working NFC chip, click the link below, flash away and give the latest and greatest that Google has to offer a shot!
What works:
- WiFi
- SD Card
- Touchscreen
- Hardware Acceleration(most)
- Camera (After first FC)
- Home, search and back buttons (not menu button)
- Headphone and ext spk. sound
- 3G Text, MMS
What doesn’t:
- (Some ICS lib’s had to be replace with GB lib’s. So it’s not exactly a clone of the SDK build (still great work though)
- NFC no worky
- I’m being told Calls dont work
- Tap to share
- some ICS features are left out.
