Sprint and HTC Bring First Round of Security Issue Updates!!!
A few weeks ago HTC had a bad week when a rather large security issue was uncovered. We reported on this flaw months ago here but that is neither here nor there. The issue at hand is that HTC’s logging tools leave a user’s phone open to attack. The logging tools are used by HTC to collect user information, such as GPS information, coded text and SMS data, phone numbers, email addresses, and system logs. While collecting user information is not unusual by any means, how easy it is to lift information off a HTC phone is. Any app requesting access to android.permission.internet can access any of the information I listed above. HTC quickly issued a statement saying they would take care of the issue and it seems the patch has begun rolling out.
Sprint it seems is reading willing and able to be the first carrier to issue the patch with the rest of the big four to follow suit. The update patch is less than 10MB and will be rolling out to Sprint‘s lineup of EVO phones including the EVO 4G, EVO 3D, EVO Shift 4G, EVO Design 4G, and the Wildfire S. If you are ready to update you can check yourself or wait for the rollout to find your phone. Way to go Sprint!!
Editors Note: The aforementioned flaw was uncovered by Team Syndicate member TrevE and is a story we broke little known fact! Why we received zero credit is neither here nor there like Josh said.
