Motorola Devices Go Live with Potential Permanant Root Method!!
Another in the line of root methods for Motorola phones has appeared on the web, these phones include the Bionic, Droid X, and Droid3. Motorola ships its devices with locked bootloaders so developers have had to get quite creative with their root methods. They have also had to stay one step ahead of Moto since Motorola tends to figure out ways to break root when they release updates. This method, which uses Root Explorer, may be broken in a future patch but if your phone is already rooted it’s worth a shot right? Especially if it only takes 5 minutes!!!
First off your phone must be rooted already. Once root has been achieved all you need to do is change a couple of lines in your “mount_ext3.sh” file!
1. Using Root Explorer, head into /system/bin.
2. Hit the Mount R/W button.
3. Scroll down to find “mount_ext3.sh” and long press on it.
4. Choose “Open in Text Editor.”
5. Scroll to the very bottom and add the following lines:
chmod 4755 /system/bin/su
chmod 4755 /system/xbin/su
chmod 755 /system/app/Superuser.apk
6. When finished, press Menu and “Save and Exit.”
7. Hit the Mount R/O button and reboot.
I am going to take a moment to remind you that root can break your phone and void your warranty. AndroREV takes no responsibility for any damage to your device. Now that all the formalities are out of the way, if you are feeling brave give this a shot! We all have rooted devices over here at AndroREV and while this method may be broken later, you may also be able to achieve permanent root on your Moto device! If you want to read up some more on the method, click the link below to head over the forums and read up on other people’s results.
