Tegra 3 Repurposed Into Ouya Game Console, A Hackers Delight
Could This Be The Next Big Thing In Consoles?
Come to think of it what took them so long. Take a Tegra 3 processor, 1GB of RAM, HDMI out to TV with 1080 p support, WifFi and a couple of controllers a usb 2.0 port for hackability and what you have is one awesome game console with a huge library of games right at launch. Well that’s exactly what the kick starter project known as Ouya is all about. 802.11n WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0 open the door for prerhiperals galore and the aforementioned usb 2.0 gives a clear signal to the development community. Get your hack on. It won’t even void the warranty.
Ouya Needs Big Backers To Succeed And It Has Them
We already know what the Tegra 3 can do. Console quality graphics but what about developers they have to be on board and support the device and with that being said the Ouja reportedly has some pretty big supporters already like Madfinger Games (Samurai II, and Shadowgun) and Electronic Arts (nuff said). Twitch T.V. is even said to be on board to live stream games. How does this stack up against the likes of OnLive i’m not sure but OnLive is decidedly proprietary in comparison. This box brings far more potential for innovation. The only catch to developing for Ouya is that there must be some form of free playable content in your software (here come the freemium games) but that’s probably not going to be a big hang up for folks we already deal with it and it’s only growing.
Ouya will come packed with a high quality dual analog control pad that is pretty standard fare though there is a promise of a higher quality standard than what we get with the current consoles. (See The Ouya’s full spec list HERE)There is no biggger indicator as to Ouya’s close ties to the development community than the fact that it comes packed with development tools so anyone can get started crafting software. What’s even better is the price 99 bucks. Not bad for a Tegra 3. Get all the information in the video below. Is Ouya in your plans?
