Sprint Motorola Photon Q Official and Will Feature Unlockable Bootloader!!!

The Motorola Photon Q has been floating around the internets for a while now. Today it was officially outed by Sprint and if you are a fan of QWERTY keyboards this may be right up your alley. The phone features a pretty damn nice spec list and unlike a lot of sliders out there,Moto did not skimp in the hardware department.  The phone features a 4.3″ qHD display with Colorboost technology, yes that is the largest display you can currently get on an Android Slider right now. The Q also features a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 8MP camera with 1080p video, front facing HD camera, 1GB of RAM, Android 4.0 ICS, NFC, expandable SD storage, LTE radio, and a backlit QWERTY keyboard.  Sounds like a pretty capable QWERTY right?

If you are like me, you hear the specs on a Motorola device and think WOW, sounds great but the bootloader will be locked. Normally this line of thought is exactly correct but according to Moto they are will be moving away with that policy starting with this phone. Today they confirmed on their blog that the Photon and some other yet unannounced devices will also be getting the unlocked treatment,

For months now we’ve been working closely with our developers and carrier partners to provide users a way to unlock the bootloader on their Motorola Mobility device while keeping the networks secure and satisfying carriers’ requirements.  And we’ve finally found a solution.

Starting with the MOTOROLA PHOTON Q, users will be able to unlock the bootloader. Other products will have this option too in the future.

MOTOROLA PHOTON Q will be available on Sprint in August. Specific details on unlocking PHOTON Q’s bootloader will be available then.

Looks like we may finally be seeing some influence from Google here.  They recently purchased Moto’s mobile division and from the looks of it, this is one of the first steps they will take and here at AndroREV we welcome this change!! This phone will be releasing soon but details and an exact release date and pricing will be dropping in the next few days so keep your eyes peeled!!
