Motorola Announces Via Twitter No Plans To Unlock Bootloaders On Older Devices!!
Motorola just announced the release of their bootloader unlocking tool with the Moto Photon Q being the first device on the unlock list. When news of this tool released alot of people with older Motorola devices I am sure were hoping the tool would be coming down the pipes to them. As a Verizon SGS3 owner who just got a hold of Sammy’s bootloader unlock tool, it is always exciting news. However I am going to have to take the wind out of some of your sails tonight. Today via Twitter they were asked if previous devices such as X2, Droid 3 or the Bionic were going to be added to the Bootloader Support List. The response was a very unsupportive, “That is not currently in the plan”.
While this is not a final nail in the coffin, minds could always change, it does mean that as of right now if you are hoping to unlock your bootloader you may have to rely on the developer community or buy a brand new Moto device. Hopefully if there is enough public outrage much like HTC, Motorola will fold and allow some of these devices to get cracked wide open. In the meantime, keep your fingers crossed and we will be letting you all know as more devices are added to the unlock list.
