JKeene Reviews-Bean’s Custom Stock ROM For Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III
So after doing my first ROM review on the GS3, which focused on a rather stock ROM, the search was on for one with a little more bacon. Looking around I found a new ROM over on XDA by Beanstown106 and I knew I had my next ROM on my hands. Bean’s Custom ROM has gone above and beyond making sure that there is something for everyone. Now I know that the name says stock ROM but do not think for a second that Bean has let down those of you who want to change things up a bit! Here is a list of a lot of the features that Bean baked into his ROM,

After installing it and booting up I was greeted with my first experience with the Aroma Installer, do not be alarmed when that white screen pops up. This lets you pick your mods before you even flash your ROM. So after picking my launcher of choice, what Verizon bloatware I wanted installed, what aspects of TouchWiz I did and did not want, the ROM promptly installed and booted up with no issues. If you have not unlocked your bootloader don’t worry just follow the instructions you have just flash one without Imoseyon’s kernel. I would be remiss if I did not say you are missing out because I have nothing but good things to say about his Lean Kernel. Great battery life, awesome performance, and very stable! While this is a stock ROM many aspects have been themed to give it an AOSP look, so no more busted TW green, ICS blue dominates most aspects of this ROM and is a welcome change. In addition the JB keyboard is here as well as JB animations. One of my favorite parts of this ROM is that Bean removed that damn Verizon WiFi notification so you will not be constantly dealing with that. With this ROM my phone has been a very good experience, bringing speed, tasteful tweaks, and stability, all of which are welcome in the current world of GS3 ROMs. I almost forgot, Bean is nice enough to throw in 50GB of Dropbox storage as well!!! Just follow the instructions, it worked just fine for me
1. App Test
I used a bevy of apps to put this ROM through its paces. Dead Trigger and Riptide GP are both in heavy rotation on my phone and I had no issues with either game. Both performed smoothly and loaded quickly with no real problems. Google Plus looks great as usual and unlike some other ROMs all aspects of the app worked very well including my Messenger portion. YouTube worked just fine and I even made some iSheep jealous with the screen size and clarity while checking out a movie preview! Twitter brought me my tweets smoothly and with no major hiccups.

2. Launcher Responsivness
As I mentioned above you can use the Aroma Installer to start off with the launcher of your choice and since Nova is my favorite I started off with that. I had a couple of force closes the first day but after everything settled in, I had no further issues. I also used Apex Launcher just to see how another one behaved and this one as well gave me no problems. Screen transitions on both were great and once again the 3D transition effects really impressed some people without Android phones! Widgets worked well and my app drawer played very nice with everything.

3. Battery Life
This is another win for Bean’s ROM. I got about 15 hours easily out of the phone while on WiFi and around 10 while on 4G. When I overclocked the battery life dropped off but of course this is to be expected . I do use my phone pretty frequently during the day so while your battery life may very, I can honestly say that I was impressed with the battery life I got out of the ROM/kernel combo. Great job guys!

4. Sound Quality
While the GS3 is not Beats Audio equipped I can attest that there are not issues with the sound on this ROM. The ringer is as loud as stock(trust me I could not sleep through the alarm in the morning), games sounded great,as well as music. Google Music sounded just fine in my headphones and the YouTube App performed admirably.

5. Browser Testing
Here I used both the Chrome browser and the stock that came with the ROM. Both did just fine for everyday tasks however I had some issues with the Chrome browser behaving. I had occasional FCs on it with no real rhyme or reason. The stock browser did not give me any trouble so I am not sure exactly what to chalk this up to. Chrome was absolutely usable just not quite as stable as stock

So what do we have with Bean’s ROM? Well in short the best ROM I have used yet on the GS3. The ROM brings you rock solid performance, stability, speed, and with the addition of the AOSP theming, sex appeal as well. I love that I can delete the bloatware I hate and add what I do want right from jump. The tweaks, while nothing crazy add some very nice options to the ROM and I applaud Bean for not going overboard on the customization. If you are looking for all of the above, please head over to the link below and give this ROM a try. Remember to select the proper ROM to flash if you have not unlocked your bootloader and you must follow instructions to get your 50GB of Dropbox storage. Happy Flashing!!
